Inactivated adsorbed hepatitis A vaccine (GBM strain)
Indications/Uses
Active immunisation against infection caused by HAV in adults & adolescents ≥16 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Adult & adolescent ≥16 yr 0.5 mL inj into the deltoid region, followed by a booster dose 6-12 mth after 1st vaccination & can be administered up to 36 mth after 1st vaccination. Can also be administered as a booster dose in those who received a 1st inj w/ combined typhoid fever & hepatitis A vaccine between 6 & 36 mth earlier.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to inactivated adsorbed hepatitis A vaccine (GBM strain) or neomycin & following a previous inj of this vaccine. Postpone vaccination in patients w/ severe acute febrile illness.
Special Precautions
Appropriate medical treatment & monitoring are recommended in case of anaphylactic reaction after vaccination. Do not administer intravascularly, intradermally & into the buttocks. Patients w/ impaired immunity. Possible syncope especially in adolescents; may be accompanied by several neurological signs (eg, transient sight disorders, paraesthesia & tonic-clonic limb movements during recovery phase). May induce decreased immune response to vaccine w/ immunosuppressive treatment or immunodeficiency. May have no effect on hepatitis A development. May not obtain a protective immune response as w/ all vaccines. No protection against hepatitis B, C or E, or by other known liver pathogens. Contains ethanol, phenylalanine (may be harmful for people w/ phenylketonuria), K & Na. Patients w/ liver disease. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia, mild inj site pain. Headache; nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhoea, abdominal pain; myalgia, arthralgia; slight fever.
Drug Interactions
Ab titres may be lower w/ concomitant administration of Ig than those obtained when vaccine is administered alone. Do not mix w/ other vaccines in same syringe; other vaccines must be administered in separate sites using separate syringes & needles.
